Darwin Streaming Server on Ubuntu

May 7th, 2010

The Darwin Streaming Server (DSS), Apple’s open-source version of the Quicktime Streaming Server, is a great little piece of software for streaming your Quicktime movies. Where it really shines is in its ability to stream .ogg videos to mobile devices.

However, getting it installed on Ubuntu can be a bit frustrating (it is primarily designed to run on Fedora). The following guide includes the patches you need to get DSS up and running on Ubuntu 8.04 (and possibly later versions as well, haven’t tested that yet).
